Lake Wylie crash identified
LAKE WYLIE — The 77-year-old man who died in a traffic accident Saturday afternoon is David Asplund, a resident of the River Hills gated community in Lake Wylie, said York County Coroner Sabrina Gast Sunday morning.
According to the Highway Patrol, Asplund, who wasn't wearing a seat belt, collided with a 16-year-old girl in his 2004 Cadillac at the intersection of Heritage Drive and Honeysuckle Woods. The girl was driving a 1999 Ford Expedition.
The accident, Gast said, took place inside River Hills, where Asplund was pronounced dead on the scene sometime after 3:15 p.m.
The teenage girl was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment of injuries.
The crash remains under investigation. Lance Cpl. Billy Elder with the Highway Patrol did not have an update on the girl's condition early Sunday afternoon.
