YORK — A York man jogging near his home was chased and then bitten by a small black and tan dog Monday morning.
The man, 27, said he was running on Shauna Road around 11:30 a.m. when two neighborhood dogs began to chase him. One bit him on his right calf, causing it to bleed and swell to the size of "a half dollar," according to a York County Sheriff's report.
Deputies and animal control spoke with the dogs' caretaker, a 22-year-old woman, who said the dogs belong to her father-in-law in Fort Mill. She called her father-in-law and told him about the incident. She also told authorities that one of the dogs bit her toddler last week. The child only suffered minor injuries, the woman said, so she didn't report the incident.
The woman's father-in-law consented to the dogs being released to animal control and euthanized. Officials were unable to locate shot records for the dogs, although the owner said the dogs were up-to-date on their vaccinations, the report states.
The victim didn't want the owner to be charged but he did request information for having his medical bills paid.
The report did not specify the breed or type of dogs involved in the incident.
